Screencasting Project

The Problem

As part of my TECM 5191 course, I was tasked with creating a short (90 – 150 second) instructional video on a piece of software using Camtasia. The video needed to be intended for a beginner audience and focused on completing a clear task.

The Solution

I chose to make my video on planning a project using Todoist. I’ve used Todoist in the past and know that it has a great free version and a lot of features that I was already familiar with.

To create the video, I first drew up a storyboard with a script that broke the video into distinct sections with estimated times for each. I then recorded my audio using my script, followed by the visuals.

Most of my time on this project was spent editing. I synced the audio and video together and added a title card at the beginning and end of the video, annotations that announced new sections, and some visual markers to make it easier for the audience to see my cursor or what options I was choosing from a dropdown menu. The result was a quick, upbeat video that gets new users started planning their first project in Todoist.
